Hotels are getting creative these days with visually attractive displays in the lobbies; effectively, telling their guests to put down their smartphones and PDA’s. It is usually the use of big digital screens that hotels use to attract their guest out of rooms to lobbies. This way guests learn about the hotel services and the surroundings.

The idea is to give guests and travelers something they can’t get on their personal gadgets, inside information on the hotel and surroundings, tips on local attractions and restaurants and work by local artists. Many of these displays are interactive and respond to swipe of a fingertip just like an iPad.

Modern day hotel guests expect to instantly get information they want on their fingertips. More and more guests use these interactive digital signage screens to get the information they need. Growth of internet has led to excess of information and with digital signage screens; hotels can look into what their guests are searching for and instantly update relevant information.

These hotel digital signage solutions are undoubtedly better for user engagement as these screens can be changed instantly as opposed to the old techniques where someone had to put out letters.

Many hotels are going one step further and linking these digital screens to their Facebook pages to interact with them at all times. All Facebook updates and photos of the hotel appear instantly on lobby digital screens as well.

Hotel executives say that it is the best method to communicate with today’s tech-savvy guests. According to them, these systems can engage the guests in ways that a printed sign, brochure or even a concierge can’t do. This is the main reason that digital displays are becoming popular in hotels and restaurants of all price levels from limited service to luxury.

Hotels use these screens in a variety of ways to attract and entertain guests and travelers. At times to display work of art by local artists. Information on local events and gallery openings, weather updates and travel information like flight times are also displayed on these digital signage screens. However, the most important reason for popularity of these systems is that hotels are employing them to drive brand loyalty. Hotels use the screens to sell their services and products.

Things to Consider before Installing Digital Signage System

Are you considering installing digital signage system for your business? Here are three important aspects to consider before making final decision:

Objectives – This is by far your No. 1 consideration; to make sure the system you purchase will realize or your company's objectives. This may seem obvious, but many buyers are so entrenched in the technologies and features that they forget about the important thing; objectives. For instance, if improving safety is a prime objective, then the system you get should have means to promote safe work practices, with safety related templates and stock content.

Correct fit – You wouldn't buy a jacket without trying it on, right? The same goes to digital signage. How do you try on a digital signage system? Get beyond the sales & marketing stage and get the names of companies that are using the system you're looking at, then talk to the actual users. If you can't easily get a few names, that's a huge red flag; keep looking.

Ease of use – Think seriously about who's going to use the digital signage system. Are they enthusiastic about technology? Do they know how to create great content? Are they good with Photoshop, PowerPoint and scheduling software? If your answer is "yes" to all these questions, then ease of use might not be quite as essential to you. But if your company is like many others, the people who will use the digital signage include front desk personnel, executive assistants, operation managers and HR managers, in other words, a mixed bag. Because they have a variety of core skills, you require a digital signage system that's very efficient and easy to use. And those users will most likely change as people change jobs, so you would like a system that takes the least training possible.
